Technical Information

Pattern Dances:  Juvenile through Novice pattern dance events have a “Skater’s Choice” component.  Teams are allowed to choose the USFS standard music or they have the option to use a different song for their performance.  The selected music must meet the criteria detailed in the documents (PDF) linked below.

Juvenile Events:  Both pattern dances, the Fiesta Tango and Willow Waltz, are skated on Saturday, January 17th.  On Sunday, all skaters perform a free dance to music and rhythms of their own choosing.  Highest combined point total wins.

Intermediate Events:  Both pattern dances, the European Waltz and Rocker Foxtrot, are skated on Saturday, January 17th.  On Monday, all skaters perform a free dance to music and rhythms of their own choosing.  Highest combined point total wins.


Novice Events: Both pattern dances, the Paso Doble and Starlight Waltz, are skated on Sunday, January 18th. On Tuesday, all skaters perform a free dance to music and rhythms of their own choosing. Highest combined point total wins.


Junior Events: Juniors no longer a separate pattern dance event phase.  Instead, two sequences of the Silver Samba are an included component in the short dance.  The juniors will compete the short dance on Wednesday, January 21st. On Friday, the competition concludes with the free dance, skated to music and rhythms of their own choosing. Highest combined point total wins.


Senior Events: Seniors no longer a separate pattern dance event phase.  Instead, one sequence of the Paso Doble as well as a partial step sequence in hold are included components in the short dance (see 2014-15 Short Dance Elements for Junior and Senior for more information).  The short dance is contested on Friday, January 23rd.  The competition concludes on Sunday with the free dance skated to music and rhythms of their own choosing. Highest combined point total wins.
