Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto – Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto are the three-time and reigning national champions, as well as two-time world medalists and Olympic silver medalists. Belbin and Agosto train in Detroit under Igor Shpilband, who has been their coach since they became partners in 1998, and Marina Zueva.

Belbin and Agosto’s success started early in their career, winning the US Junior dance title and winning the bronze at Junior Worlds in their first season competing together.  In the next seasons, they completed their set of Junior Worlds medals, by taking silver in 2001 and gold in 2002, and had a solid start to their senior career, winning two silver medals at Nationals, which also qualified them for the world team. Since then, they have only improved, picking up many more medals and accolades, including three Skate America titles, three Four Continents Championship titles, the USOC ‘Team of the Month’ award for both January and February of 2006, and the SKATING magazine’s Readers’ Choice Award. They are the 2006 Olympic silver medallists.

Belbin is originally from Canada and had to receive US citizenship to compete at the Olympics. Belbin and Agosto had previously qualified for the Olympics in 2002, but were unable to attend because Belbin lacked US Citizenship at that time. Belbin became a citizen in December 2005.

Meryl Davis & Charlie White – Meryl Davis and Charlie White have been competing together for 10 years – the current longest ice dance partnership in the US. They train in Canton, Michigan, under coaches Igor Shpilband and Marina Zoueva. Davis and White finished in 4th place at both of the Grand Prix Events – their debut as senior level competitors. 2007 US Nationals in Spokane will be their first as a senior team.

Davis and White have medalled at every level of National competition in the US (excluding Senior):

Juvenile – 1998 US Junior Olympics (Silver)
Intermediate – 1999 US Junior Olympics (Gold)
Novice – 2002 US Nationals (Silver)
Junior – 2004 US Nationals (Silver)
Junior – 2006 US Nationals (Gold)

Davis and White ended their final junior international season (2005-2006) with a silver medal at the Junior Grand Prix Final and a bronze medal at Junior Worlds.

Isabel Elliman & Dmitriy Serebrenik – Isabel Elliman and Dmitry Serebrenik have been competing together for 7 seasons. They train in New York City and are coached by Brad Cox, Jocelyn Cox and Robbie Kaine. Their programs were choreographed by Jill Cosgrove. The team won the bronze medal at Eastern Sectionals to qualify for Nationals.

Elliman and Serebrenik have competed at 4 previous Nationals, including twice at the intermediate level.

Melissa Gregory & Denis Petukhov – Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov teamed up in the Fall of 2000 after corresponding via the internet. For the 2006/07 season, they relocated to Newark, Delaware to train under coaches Natalia Linichuk and Gennady Karponosov.

The 2006/07 international season has been successful for Gregory and Pethukov as they won silver at Skate America and bronze at NHK Trophy, which qualified them for the Grand Prix Final for the first time (where they finished in 6th).

Gregory and Pethukov have medaled in every appearance at the National Championships including bronze at the 2002 and 2003 championships and silver at the 2004, 2005 and 2006 events.

Caitlin Mallory & Brent Holdburg – Caitlin Mallory and Brent Holdburg teamed up in 2003. They train in San Jose, California, under coaches Marina Klimova and Sergei Ponomarenko. Mallory and Holdburg finished 2nd at Pacific Coast Sectionals qualifying them for the 2007 US National championships.

Mallory and Holdburg are in their second season at the senior level. They started their season with a win in the free dance portion of the Lake Placid and followed it up with a 4th place finish at the Karl Shafer Memorial event.

Holdburg previously skated with Natalie Bos (2002) and was coached by Pierre Panayi until he relocated to California in 2003.

Morgan Matthews & Maxim Zavozin – Morgan Matthews and Max Zavozin teamed up in 2001 and are coached by Elena Garanina in Ashburn, Virginia. Garanina is Zavozin’s mother. The team qualified for the 2007 National Championships due to their top 5 finish at the 2006 event.

Matthews and Zavozin finished 4th and 6th at their Grand Prix events this season, their second on the senior international circuit.

The team has medalled each time they have competed at the National Championships, including a bronze a the novice level, two gold medals at the junior level and a pewter medal at the senior level in 2006.

In 2005, they won the World Junior Championships.

Charlotte Maxwell & Nick Traxler – Charlotte Maxwell and Nick Traxler are competing in their second Nationals together. Last season, they placed 12th at Nationals, a result that they will almost certainly improve on this season. They train in Plano, Texas and are coached by Pierre Panayi. They earned their spot at Nationals by placing third at Pacific Coast Sectionals. The team finished 12th at the 2006 event.

After her partnership with Brad Coulter ended in 2005, Maxwell passed all of her junior and senior ice dance tests to compete with Traxler. Despite still being age-eligible for junior international competitions, Maxwell chose to skate with Traxler instead of a partner with whom she could compete in Junior Grand Prix events. The choice has clearly paid off. Traxler is one of the veterans of the field, having previously competed at Nationals as a senior in 2004 and as a junior in 1999 and 2000.

Elizabeth Miosi & Dmitry Ponomarev – Elizabeth Miosi and Dmitry Ponomarev teamed up in 2004. They train in Ashburn, Virginia, under coach Elena Garanina. Miosi and Ponomarev won the gold medal at Eastern Sectionals to advance to the 2007 US National Championships.

Miosi and Ponomarev competed on the Junior Grand Prix circuit for the 05/06 season finishing 4th at the JGP event in Montreal and 6th at the SBC Cup in Japan. They were 6th at the 2006 championships at the junior level.

Ponomarev is Miosi’s first ice dancing partner. She trained as a singles skater before switching to ice dancing. Ponomarev competed for Russia with Anastasia Platonova.

Kimberly Navarro & Brent Bommentre – Kimberly Navarro and Brent Bommentre teamed up in Spring 2005 and are coached by Robbie Kaine in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Due to finishing in the top 5 at the 2006 US National Championships, they received a bye directly to the 2007 event.

Navarro and Bommentre finished sixth at both of their Grand Prix event assignments this season – Skate America and Skate Canada.

Navarro competed for five seasons with Robert Shmalo, while Bommentre medalled at Nationals at the junior level with Kirsten Frisch and the senior level with Kendra Goodwin.

Kate Slattery & C.G. Lee – Kate Slattery and C.G. Lee teamed up in 2003. For the 2006/07 season, they returned to Delaware and are now training with Natalia Linichuk and Gennady Karponosov. They qualified for Nationals by winning the silver medal at Eastern Sectionals.

Slattery and Lee were forced to withdraw from the 2006 US National Championships after Lee and another ice dancer collided in the original dance warm-up.

Slattery and Lee have competed twice for the US in international competition:

2006 Nebelhorn Trophy – 8th
2004 Bofrost Cup – 7th

Lee is a former Olympian where he competed for his native Korea with Tae-Hwa Lee in 2002 (they finished 24th). Slattery’s former partners include Bryan Tomczuk (2000) and Patrick Connelly (2001-2002).

Jennifer Wester & Daniil Barantsev – Jennifer Wester and Daniil Barantsev teamed up in 2003 and train in Simsbury, Connecticut, under coach Nikolai Morosov. The team finished 7th at the 2006 US National Championships. This is their second trip to US Nationals.

Barantsev is a former World Champion for Russia (2000 and 2001 with Natalia Romaniuta). He relocated to the US after the end of his previous partnership in hopes of finding a new partner to continue his skating career. Wester previously competed with Jon Harris.

The team has been unable to compete internationally to this point due to Barantsev not being released by the Russian Federation.

Mimi Whetstone & Chris Obzansky – Mimi Whetstone and Chris Obzansky teamed up in late Spring 2006. They train in Canton, Michigan under coaches Igor Shpilband and Marina Zoueva. Shpilband also served as the choreographers for the team’s programs. Whetstone and Obzansky won the gold medal at Pacific Coast Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships in Spokane.

Whetstone previously competed with Benjamin Cohen and Nathan Miller (winning medals at the juvenile and intermediate levels). Obzansky had successful partnerships with Lydia Manon and Kendra Goodwin.

Obzansky returned to the skating scene in 2005 after completing a Mormon mission to the Baltics.

Pilar Bosley & John Corona – Pilar Bosley and John Corona teamed up in May 2003. They train in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and are coached by Christine Fowler-Binder and Robbie Kaine. The team won Eastern Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships.

Bosley and Corona completed their first season on the Junior Grand Prix circuit, finishing 5th at the JGP Courcheval, France and 8th at JGP Oslo, Norway.

Bosley and Corona have competed at the past two US National Championships, winning the pewter medal at the novice level in 2005 and finishing in 7th place at the junior level in 2006.

Lindsay Cohen & Evan Roberts – The 2006/07 season marks the 5th year Lindsay Cohen and Evan Roberts have been skating together. Cohen and Roberts train in Newark, Delaware, and are coached by Natalia Linichuk, Gennadi Karponosov and Jerry Santoferrera. Linichuk and Vitali Popkov are the choreographers behind Cohen and Roberts’ programs this season. The team finished 3rd at Eastern Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships. This will be their third trip to Nationals; they competed at the 2002 and 2003 US Junior National Championships.

This has been a breakthrough season for Cohen and Roberts as they were assigned to the North American Challenge Skate event in Burnaby, British Columbia where they finished 5th. US Figure Skating then assigned them to competed in their first Junior Grand Prix (Romania) where they finished 8th.

Clare Farrell & Charles Fishpaw – Clare Farrell and Chase Fishpaw teamed up in Spring 2006. They train in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and Newark, Delaware, under coaches Robbie Kaine, Cheryl Demkowski- Snyder and Christine Fowler-Binder. Dembowski-Snyder and Natalia Linichuk choreographed the team’s programs. Farrell and Fishpaw finished 4th at Midwestern Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships.

Farrell competed at the 2005 and 2006 US Nationals with Ashley Deavers. Fishpaw competed previously at the 2000 US Junior National Championships at the juvenile level with Jessica Wing. From 2004 to early 2006, Fishpaw skated with Emily Blynn.

Piper Gilles & Timothy McKernan – Piper Gilles and Timothy McKernan are competing in their fourth year together. They qualified for Nationals by placing 2nd at Midwestern Sectionals. They train in Colorado Springs, Colorado under Patti Gottwein-Britton, Christopher Dean and Rich Griffin. Gilles and McKernan are the 2005 Intermediate Champions. They competed as novices last season, finishing 7th at Nationals.

This season has brought unexpected success to them. Despite planning on continuing as novices for a second year, they were assigned to compete as juniors at the NACS this past summer. Then they won. This led to Junior Grand Prix assignments and two strong finishes. Needless to day, all plans of competing as novices have long been forgotten.

Madison Hubbell & Keiffer Hubbell – Madison and Keiffer Hubbell are a brother-sister team competing as juniors for the first time this season. They train in Ann Arbor, Michigan and are coached by Iouri Tchesnitchenko and Yasa Netcheva. First teaming up to skate together in 2002, the Hubbells have won both the Juvenile and Intermediate National Ice Dance Championships. These wins, plus strong results at the novice level, helped them win a scholarship from the Michael Weiss Foundation.

Despite making their junior debuts this season, the Hubbells have done well in competition, placing 1st and 2nd in their Junior Grand Prix events, and winning the Junior Grand Prix Final. No team in their first year as juniors has accomplished this before.

Brooke Huber & Karl Edelmann II – Brooke Huber and Karl Edelmann teamed up in 2005 and train in Ann Arbor, Michigan with coaches Yasa Netchaeva and Iouri Tchesnitchenko. Huber and Edelmann won Midwestern Sectionals qualifying them for the 2007 US National Championships. Huber and Edelmann finished 11th at the 2006 event.

Though not age-eligible for Junior Grand Prix events, Huber and Edelmann have had a successful season thus far. In additional to medalling in the original and free dance events in Lake Placid, they also won the bronze medal at the North American Challenge Skate in Burnaby, BC.

Edelmann competed 2004 and 2005 with Sarah Noel.

Lynn Kriengkrairut & Logan Giulietti-Schmitt – Lynn Kriengkrairut and Logan Giulietti-Schmitt teamed up in July 2006. They train in Ann Arbor, Michigan, under coaches Yasa Netchaeva and Iouri Tchesnitchenko. Tchesnitchenko and Netchaeva choreographed the team’s programs for the 2006/2007 season.

With under three weeks to prepare for the Lake Placid Ice Dancing Championships, the newly-formed team was unable to get ready for the international selection events, however, they did compete several open compulsory events. Three months later, they became the 2007 Pacific Coast Sectional Champions.

Kriengkrairut finished 5th at Pacific Coast Sectionals in 2005 with Jon Lauten. Giulietti-Schmitt competed at the 2005 and 2006 US National Championships with Mauri Gustafson.

Amanda Loyd & Ashley Deavers – Amanda Loyd and Ashley Deavers teamed up in the spring of 2006 and are coached by Olga Mudrak and Eric Meiers. They finished 3rd at Midwestern Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships.

Loyd competed during the 2005 and 2006 seasons with Dmytro Overchuk. Deavers has previously competed at Nationals with Jenny Gober (novice) and Clare Farrell (novice and junior).

Brianne Oswald & Buckley Withrow – Brianne Oswald and Buck Withrow teamed up in 2006 and train in Canton, Michigan, with coaches Igor Shpilband and Marina Zoueva. Shpilband is the creator of the team’s programs for this season. The team finished 3rd at Pacific Coast Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships.

Based on strong performances at Lake Placid Ice Dancing Championships, Oswald and Withrow were assigned to a Junior Grand Prix event in Romania where they finished 10th.

Oswald previously competed with Nathan Truesdell at the novice level; the team won the North American Challenge Skate in 2005. Withrow competed with Brooke Frieling until January 2005.
Jessica Perino & William Avila – Jessica Perino and William Avila teamed up in Spring 2006 and are coached by Suzy Semanick-Shurman and Darlene Gilbert. Semanick-Shurman choreographed their programs for this season. The team finished fourth at Pacific Coast Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships.

Perino switched to ice dancing in 2005, competing with Jon Harris at the 2006 Pacific Coast Sectionals. Avila won the Pewter medal at the 2005 US Nationals at the intermediate level with Kristine Kretz.

Emily Samuelson & Evan Bates – Emily Smuelson and Evan Bates have the longest partnership of any junior team competing this season. Teaming up in 2000, Samuelson and Bates train in Ann Arbor, Michigan with Iouri Tchesnitchenko and Yasa Netcheva. This will be their second season competing as juniors, having won the silver medal last in 2006. They are also the 2005 Novice Champions and the 2002 Intermediate Champions. They have won a medal at every US National Championship that they have competed at.

This season has been a breakthrough for Samuelson and Bates. After finishing last season’s debut as juniors with a strong debut at Junior Worlds, placing 10th, they won both Junior Grand Prix events. This easily qualified them for the Junior Grand Prix Final, where they won a silver medal.

Rachel Siegel & Kevin Miller – Rachel Siegel and Kevin Miller teamed up in 2006. They train in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, under coaches Slava Uchitel and Robbie Kaine. Their programs were choreographed by Ruslan Goncharov and Elena Grushina, the 2006 Olympic bronze medallists. Siegel and Miller finished 4th at Eastern Sectionals to qualify for the 2007 US National Championships.

Siegel previously competed with Dean Copely, Peter Cook and Jonathan Ross. Miller’s previous partner was Megan Calhoun.
Samantha Tomarchio & Nicholas Sinchak – Samantha Tomarchio and Nicholas Sinchak are in their third season together as a team, their first as juniors. They train in Maryland and are coached by Genrikh Sretenski. A second-place finish at Eastern Sectionals qualified them for Nationals.

Last season, they won the bronze medal at Nationals as novices. This result helped earn them assignments at the NACS and the Junior Grand Prix series. Unfortunately, Tomarchio suffered a concussion during practice. This cut thier training time down severly and forced them to withdraw from the NACS. They were able to eventually compete at JGP Czech Republic, where they finished 8th.

Tomarchio skated previously with Alexander Lorello, while Sinchak skated with Caitlin Dail.

Shannon Wingle & Ryan Devereaux – Shannon Wingle and Ryan Devereaux have been together since 2005. They train in Canton, Michigan with Igor Shpilband, who also choreographed their programs for this season. Last season, they placed 5th as novices. This year, they competed at two Junior Grand Prix events, finishing 6th and 7th, and then qualified for Nationals by placing 2nd at Pacific Coast Sectionals.

Wingle previously competed with James Warren, with whom she won a the bronze medal in novice, and Kurt Lingenfelter, with whom she won the Juvenile National title. Devereaux competed as a juvenile with Elizabeth Susko before pairing up with Wingle.
