2014 Nebelhorn Blog: Travel Day!
Great Britain’s Carter Jones & Richard Sharpe are competing at the 2014 Nebelhorn Trophy in Obertsdorf, Germany. They are sharing their experiences at this event with IDC.
We began our trip to Oberstdorf by having one last practice at home in Aston, PA on Monday before leaving for the airport. For Carter, this is her first trip to Oberstdorf, but for Richard, he has been lucky enough to have competed in Obertsdorf a couple of times before. Our flight left Philadelphia at 6 PM and the first part of our journey took us to Munich. We arrived in Munich at around 8 AM on Tuesday (local time), local time and then made our way to the train station to begin our 3 hour train ride to Oberstdorf.
As the journey went on, the views outside got more and more amazing. By the time we arrived, we were surrounded by mountains all over and some still had snow on the tips. Our hotel (Schutzenhaus) is basically a converted house with a restaurant at the bottom. We got in, unpacked our bags and made our way to the rink to get accredited. Once we were all checked in at the rink, we walked around the town for a couple of hours, located the grocery store and found the restaurants we wanted to eat at. We started off the trip with a nice Italian dinner and then made our way back to the hotel for an early night to make sure our body clocks got used to the time difference.
